I started teaching guitar in a music store called Guitar World in the centre of Sydney. They soon after moved to Annandale in the late ’80s. I taught there until the year 2000. That same year, I started my own teaching business called GUITARHIVE.
I have been playing for over 45 years, so I have covered many guitar playing styles. I love the guitar and sharing information that I have learned over that period. I have been teaching now for over 30 years and still get great satisfaction from showing other musicians the knowledge that I have gained.
I also play and teach bass guitar, ukulele and mandolin. All these instruments hold a special place in my musical journey.
In 2005, a former student had an idea about jamming with other like-minded people. This led to some group workshops, which then led to a band concert in April 2005 with 8 bands at the Australian Youth Hotel in Glebe. I called it HIVE LIVE.
Now we do a Hive Live concert every year and it showcases all the skills and talent from guitar players to bass players and singers!
I have also been writing and recording for over 40 years, and I also teach these subjects as well.
Most lessons are one on one, but pairs and groups are often an alternative. I enjoy passing on information and I still get a thrill when I see a student play something they have never played before. The guitar is a very giving instrument. Lovely sounding and portable, its potential is only reached with your imagination, patience, and practice!
Have fun!
